Community Invited to Join Faculty, Staff and Students in Event Honoring Veterans
Thomasville, N.C Davidson County Community College will hold a special Veterans Day tribute at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11 in the Rittling Conference Center.
Retired Army Command Sgt. Maj. Malcolm Calhoun of the 113th Sustainment Brigade in Greensboro, N.C., will be the keynote speaker. A resident of Winston-Salem, Calhoun served for 11 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. As a member of the North Carolina Army National Guard, he was twice deployed to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003-04 and 2006-07. His many honors include The Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars.
Representatives from Veterans Helping Veterans Heal, the Homeownership Center of Lexington, McDonald’s and Verizon Wireless also will be on hand to talk with veterans about housing, health and employment opportunities.
