Getting Started with Veteran Services

STEP 1: APPLY FOR VA EDUCATION BENEFITS

  1. All new students looking to receive VA Education Benefits at Davidson-Davie first must apply with the VA, who will determine your eligibility.
  2. Go to the webpage How to Apply for the GI Bill® on the VA’s website, and select “Find Your Education Form”. Answer the corresponding questions. This will lead you to your correct VA education form.
  3. Complete the form which applies to you, and save the confirmation page.
  4. You will receive your Certificate of Eligibility Letter approximately 30-45 days after applying. It contains pertinent details regarding your benefit, so be sure to keep a copy for your records.

Note: You can also view this information at va.gov.

STEP 2: SUBMIT DOCUMENTATION

Once you have applied for your benefits, you will need to submit the following documentation to Davidson-Davie before your classes can be certified.

If you are the Veteran:

  1. High School Transcript or High School Equivalency (GED)
  2. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
  3. Note: This includes any training facility where you were previously certified for VA Educational Benefits.
  4. DD-214 (Member 4 or Service 2)
  5. Certificate of Eligibility Letter
  6. Davidson-Davie Veterans Student Contract

If you are a spouse or child of the Veteran:

  1. High School Transcript or High School Equivalency (GED)
  2. Official Transcripts from all colleges or universities attended.
    • Note: This includes any training facility where you were previously certified for VA Education Benefits.
  3. Certificate of Eligibility Letter
  4. Davidson-Davie Veterans Student Contract

Transcripts may be submitted to the Admissions Office. Other documentation can be brought to the Enrollment Center in the Mendenhall Building or emailed to va@davidsondavie.edu.

What we will do

  • Certify the classes that are required for your degree program
  • If you make changes to your schedule, we will take the appropriate actions
  • Assist you or answer your questions about your VA education benefits

What the VA will do

  • Determine your eligibility
  • Process your benefits claim in a timely manner

What you need to know about VA Certification:

  • The VA will not pay for courses that you have previously passed with a “D” or better, unless the course description states otherwise
  • Any courses taken outside of your degree program are your financial responsibility
  • The VA will not pay for courses for which transfer credit has been granted or courses passed by a proficiency exam

Your Responsibilities

It is your responsibility to report any changes in your status to the Davidson-Davie Veteran Services:

  • Adding or dropping a class
  • Course substitutions
  • Course withdrawal
  • Change of program of study/major
  • Readmission to school

Changes in enrollment or status that are not reported can result in an overpayment, a lapse in payment, or a reduction in your benefits. Veterans should consider discussing potential enrollment changes with their academic advisor and Davidson-Davie Veteran Services.

Students are responsible for all tuition and fees. Students are responsible for paying tuition and fees by the due date they are given at the time they register for classes.
