DCCC STORM Player Has Successful First Season
Thomasville, N.C. October 7 2015 Davidson County Community College is delighted to announce the accomplishments of former DCCC STORM basketball player, Deon Boyce Jr., who is now playing professionally in the Nicaragua-ACB league under coach JI Damaso. Boyce, number 21, and his team Los Toros Del Norte took the ACB title win in the Final series against defending champions Leones Alcadia De Managua on October 4. He collected 15 points and 10 rebounds in the game, resulting in the 66-55 victory.
Boyce started his collegiate basketball career at DCCC in 2011 where he quickly excelled. Boyce received recognition and was extremely successful in his freshman year, when he was acknowledged to the All-Tarheel Conference & Region X Freshman First Team in 2011. Throughout the rest of his DCCC basketball career, Boyce was awarded countless athletic achievements, which included NJCAA Division III All-American, Tarheel Conference & Region X Player of the Year, and was bestowed NJCAA Division III National Player of the Week twice, first in 2011 and again in 2012.
To further his education and athletic career, Boyce transferred from DCCC to the University of Virginia’s College at Wise in Fall 2012. His achievements continued at the college’s NCAA Division II team in the Mountain East Conference (MEC). He led the MEC in rebounding at 15 per game and his total of 391 established a new single-season record at UVa-Wise.
Boyce recently spoke to his former DCCC coach stating that he hopes this opportunity with Nicaragua-ACB will lead to playing for higher ranked teams in other overseas markets such as Italy, Spain, and France.
