June 22, 2020 – Davidson County Community College will offer two new programs for students interested in pursuing careers in teaching education effective Fall 2020.
DCCC is currently enrolling for both the Associate in Arts and Associate in Science in Teacher Preparation. These degrees offer a seamless pathway to any state university to earn a Bachelor’s degree for individuals wanting to teach at the elementary, middle or high school level.
“These pathways allow for considerable cost savings to students,” Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Margaret Annunziata said. “They also promote a local pipeline of highly skilled teachers to meet the needs of our K-12 partners and schools across Davidson and Davie counties.”
In comparison with DCCC’s other transfer pathways and programs, the Teacher Preparation programs focus on engaging students in the education field early on. As part of the curriculum, students will gain in-classroom experience beginning in their first semester. A majority of 4-year programs in education do not begin such experiences until the junior or senior year.
College & Career Promise pathways for Teacher Preparation are also anticipated to begin effective in the Fall 2020 semester. These will allow high school students to begin earning credit toward their education degrees while simultaneously meeting their high school graduation requirements.
The program pathways were the focus of a collaboration between the North Carolina Community College System and the University of North Carolina System.
“We invite anyone interested in pursuing a rewarding career in teaching to connect with our Admissions experts at DCCC,” Annunziata said. “High-caliber teachers can change our communities and world. We’re so excited to create the quality, affordable and innovative pathways to make that happen.”
